The Good Grocer is a privately owned brand of premium IGA food retailers, AER has supplied with electricity over a number of years. In 2017 The Good Grocer requested a study to reduce electricity costs at its Applecross site using solar energy. AER determined a well designed solar system could reduce the site’s costs by around $10,800 per annum. The site had a number of constraints with the building age, roof condition and existing plant on the roof all challenges to be oversome in the execution of the project. Although structurally sound, the roof had historically been prone to leaks, a problem that AER sought to avoid in the future by ensuring all roof areas under the solar panels remained accessible for maintenance. The inverters were mounted on the roof, as space within the shop was not available. After 2 years the system has exceeded the estimated performance and is expected to be paid for through savings in a little over 3 years.
