Mt Barker Wind Farm (2.4 MW)

Location: Mount Barker, WA

Output: 2.4 MW

Annual Production: 7,000 MWh per annum

Equipment: 3 x Enercon E53 wind turbines

AER is a controlling shareholder of the Mt Barker Wind Farm which is located approximately 4km from the Mt Barker township, in WA’s Great Southern. The wind farm was commissioned in 2010 at a cost of $8.5m.

Located only 50km from the coast, the site takes advantages of consistent winds which blow frequently, but mainly early in the morning and late in the afternoon, making the wind farm’s output highly valuable due to it being generated when most needed by electricity users.

Due to the site being inland, the wind turbines are Enercon E53 machines on 73m towers. The high towers and large swept area of the rotor allow the turbines to effectively harvest the site’s inland winds which are lower than typical coastal wind farms.

The wind farm’s output is currently contracted to a third party electricity retailer under a long term power purchase agreement.
